Vivace - Allegro Choral Academy

Enrichment Winter/Spring 2026

The Allegro Choral Academy is dedicated to providing a comprehensive vocal music experience to young people through the achievement of musical excellence in an environment that nurtures creativity, teamwork and the love of singing. The curriculum both challenges and inspires students. In addition to three performances throughout the year, singers are trained in reading music, ear training, musicianship, vocal development and ensemble skills. Performance dates are November 16, February 16. Most students participate for the entire season (Sept-May), however, registration in required one trimester at a time.

Vivace

Grades 2-3

This non-auditioned choir class is a positive, fun and structured environment where young performers explore their voice, develop their ear, build music literacy and prepare themselves for the rigors of successful choral membership. Vivace uses the principles of Orff-Kodaly music education. Instructor: April Rios

April Rios

Director of Vivace North, has taught elementary music in Minnesota since 2005. She received her undergraduate training at Bemidji State University in Vocal and Classroom Music grades K-12 and her graduate degree at the University of St. Thomas (Master of Arts in Music Education with a dual concentration in the Kodaly and Orff-Schulwerk methodologies). April is actively involved in music education in both the Kodaly Chapter of MN and the MN Orff Chapter, as well as the Minnesota Music Educators Association. April taught K-6 music in both Saint Paul Public Schools and Hopkins Public Schools before her current position in District 196 at Diamond Path Elementary School of International Studies.
