CastleCo Theatre in partnership with Lakeville Area Community Education presents... Seize the day with CastleCo Theatre's summer production of Disney's Newsies! This award-winning, Broadway musical is based on the actual newsboys strike of 1899, when child workers (child labor was legal at that time), rose up to strike against the goliath New York World newspaper! With show-stopping dance numbers, and awe inspiring set designs, this real-life, underdog story will inspire audience members of every age. Disney's Newsies runs approx. 2 hours and 20mins in length, with a 15 minute intermission, and is most enjoyed by audiences age 6 and up. Tickets will be available online in late April at castleco.org/shows Auditions Actors Age 8 - Adult are required to audition on either May 6, 7 or 9 and are NOT guaranteed a role. Actors MUST register in order to audition. There are a limited number of audition spots available for each night, so early registration is recommended. Once all audition spots are filled, a waitlist will be formed. *No prior stage experience is required but actors MUST be 8 by their audition date (no exceptions). This is a large-scale musical production with roles for approx. 150-200 participants. While many roles are available, most actors cast in the production will appear in ensemble roles. Additional audition information including role breakdowns can be found at castleco.org/auditions *Due to the casting needs for this production, please note that there are limited roles available for actors ages 8-11. CastleCo Theatre will be offering a number of theatre related classes this summer for this age group, including a series of dance classes offered through Lakeville Area Community Education. Auditions will be held May 6, 7 and 9 at the Kenwood Trail Middle School Auditorium. All actors must attend ONE audition night. Please register ahead of auditions at isd194.ce.eleyo.com Rehearsals Rehearsals will be held weeknight evenings and occasional Saturdays starting May 19 through July 20 at Lakeville South High School Auditorium as well as at CastleCo Theatre's rehearsal location in downtown Farmington. Most actors will rehearse 2-6 hours per week (spread over 1 or 2 days). Actors cast as Manhattan Newsies (including Jack, Davey, Crutchie, and Les) can expect to rehearse 4-6 days each week (2-4 hours/day). Rehearsal times for actors cast in other leading roles will vary. Rehearsal schedules will be set after auditions. CCT will ask actors to fill out their availability on a calendar at, or prior to, their audition. Casting priority will be given to actors who have the most availability to rehearse. Actors who will be out of town and/or unable to rehearse between July 21 - July 27 should NOT audition without emailing info@castleco.org ahead of time. Missing one date in this time range may be ok, but actors missing more than one date should likely not audition. Performances Performances will be held July 25 - August 3. Actors will have the option to be considered for full-time or part-time roles. Part-time roles will only rehearse 1-2 days per week and will perform in half the show times listed below. (Performances for part-time roles follow an every-other schedule. Actors do NOT get to select which shows they will perform in.) Full-time actors will rehearse 1-6 days per week (pending their role) and will perform in all of the show times listed below. Most actors who are cast in this production will be cast in Full-Time roles. Friday, July 25 at 7 pm Saturday, July 26 at 2 pm and 7 pm Sunday, July 27 at 4 pm Wednesday, July 30 at 7 pm Thursday, July 31 at 7 pm Friday, August 1 at 7 pm Saturday, August 2 at 2 pm and 7pm Sunday, August 3 at 4 pm Participation Fees Registration fee (paid after casting): Ages 8-17 = $200 per actor (for the first two actors per family), $75 per each additional actor Ages 18+ = $0 *CCT wishes to make theatre accessible to everyone, including those with limited mobility, learning needs, and those unable to pay the participation fee due to financial need.
