Creating a Home Library for Kids-Youth Service ProjectMiddle School Activities & TripsAre you a middle schooler with a passion for reading? If so, sign up for this great opportunity to help expand home libraries for young readers with books that they get to choose themselves. Did you know that studies show that children are more likely to read books they choose, rather than have someone pick out the books for them? This February, students in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to sign up and help the Lakeville Heritage Library and Lakeville Area Community Education give young readers the chance to explore their local library and participate in a free shopping spree of gently used books! Day one: Middle Schoolers organize the gently used books and write recommendation cards that will help kids find the perfect book. Day two: Participants will host a free book distribution housed at the library for children K-5. They will set up a "store" in the large meeting room, where little shoppers will be given a shopping bag and tickets to exchange for books. Middle Schoolers will help kids K-5 go through a line and look "shop" for the books to bring home to build their own home library.Enrichment Winter/Spring 2022

Have a love for animals and want to make a difference? Spend a few hours getting your hands a little dirty and maybe receive a few licks along the way. Lakeville Area Community Education offers a special Youth Service Project each season during the school year. Our spring session will give all ISD194 middle school students a very unique opportunity to help out at Pawsitive Perspectives Assistance Dogs (PawPADs), a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization headquartered in Lakeville. The mission of PawPADS is to “enrich the lives of people with disabilities by providing them with exceptionally skilled assistance dogs....” PawPAD’s primary focus is on training service dogs for people with physical mobility disabilities. Their dogs can also be trained as Diabetic Alert dogs (trained for detecting changes in blood sugar levels), Autism Support Dogs, Home Help-mate Dogs, and Facility/Animal Assisted Therapy dogs on a case-by-case basis. Volunteers will be helping with many tasks which will help this amazing organization operate throughout the year. Transportation to and from MMS will be provided. If you have a middle schooler who attends CMS or KTMS, they can take the activity bus over to MMS, otherwise please drop your child off at 2:45 pm am and pick up your child at MMS at 6:00 pm.Enrichment Spring/Summer 2022
