ACE After School Homework Enrichment Program- CMSMiddle School Activities & TripsThe ACE (Academics, Competencies, Enrichment) Program is an after-school, ISD194 staff supervised program for students in sixth through eighth grade at Century, Kenwood Trail and McGuire Middle Schools. The program provides a positive and safe environment for students to receive homework help. In addition to homework help, students will have the opportunity to learn keyboarding skills, receive help with organization, and also receive one on one help from high school tutors and participate in other enrichment activities. After-school enrichment programs have been shown to help improve student’s confidence, academic achievement, creativity, time management skills, influence teamwork, and relieve stress on working families. Grandmasters of ChessElementary Before & After School ClassesGrades K-5 New and returning students invited. Each YEL! Chess class follows four basic components: Teach It! Each class students are taught different chess concepts and coached to implement those concepts into their chess games. Practice It! Students practice positions set by the coach to improve their understanding of the concept. Puzzle It! Students are given chess puzzles (constructed by WIM Serafima Sokolovskaya) and work with coach guidance to solve them. Play It! Each class ends with students playing 20-30 minutes of chess. Coaches often feature in-class tournaments during the session. Lakeville Community Winter GuardWinter GuardPopularWelcome to the Lakeville Winter Guard 2020 Season! We are so thrilled to have you. We spin flags, rifles and sabres and provide the visual effects for the marching band. The winter guard is open to anyone in grades 8-12 in the 2019-20 school year. Our coach is Melissa Nielsen. Melissa has a background in college color guard. Prior to Lakeville South, she coached at Bingham High School in Jordan, Utah and was a member of the BYU Cougar Color Guard. Melissa has a Bachelor’s of Music in Education and a Master’s of Education in Teaching and Learning. She teaches elementary music, band and choir in the Tri City United school district. Our band directors are Chad Bieniek and Nick Castonguay. We are so excited to have a wonderfully supportive band program to work with. Majestic Hills Youth Service ProjectMiddle School Activities & TripsJoin us for an afternoon of fun and hard work. Students will get the chance to be a ranch hand for the afternoon by working at Majestic Hills Ranch in Lakeville. Majestic Hills is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that provides reputable, safe and enjoyable therapeutic horseback riding to children & young adults with special needs as well as military veterans in rehabilitation. Volunteer to help rake, paint, clean up and prepare this special ranch for Winter. Volunteers will be working around horses, but not directly with the horses. Bus transportation to and from school will be provided. Bus will start pick up at CMS, then pick up at KTMS and pick up at MMS at 2:45 pm. * Students will receive a snack on the bus, but are free to bring a nut free snack as well. * Included with the project is a t-shirt.Enrichment Fall/Winter 2019-20
