Starwatch Party with Mike Lynch

Adult Enrichment / Hobbies & Special Interest -
Enrichment Winter/Spring 2026

Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show over Lakeville. Get to know the constellations like The Big Bear, Orion the Hunter, and Gemini the Twins, and some of the great stories behind them. We’ll also use large visual telescopes, among the largest mobile telescopes in Minnesota, for close-up views of Jupiter, Venus, star clusters, and more. New affordable, nearly light pollution-proof astronomical photographic telescopes will also display live images of really distant celestial treasures like galaxies and nebulae in amazing color! You’ll also get a great handout package of star maps, constellation charts, as well as great websites and app recommendations. Also included is a practical telescope buying guide, including information on the new astronomical cameras.

NOTE: Please bring a camping/folding chair or blanket to sit on, as most of this presentation is outdoors around the telescopes. This class does require some walking to get to the telescopes from the parking lot.

Mike Lynch is a retired WCCO Radio meteorologist and has been hosting star parties and teaching astronomy classes for over 50 years. He also writes a weekly stargazing column for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and is the author of the book “Stars, a Month by Month Tour of the Constellations.” It’ll be available for purchase at the program. Select Mike Lynch celestial photos, and super cool glow-in-the-dark star shirts will also be available for sale. The Great Night Sky is Waiting!

Light snacks will be provided.
