Grades 8-12

Interested in discussing important current issues and simulating state government? Then Youth in Government (YIG) is for you!  In YIG, students in grades 8-12 pick an area of interest and then assume the role of legislator, court of appeals lawyer, newspaper reporter, lobbyist, or other government position. Students prepare legislation, debate bills, write court briefs, or dozens of other things as they prepare for their particular role. IMPORTANT -  You must register with 2 organizations:

1. Register for Youth in Government with Lakeville Area Community Education. This fee is $80 - pay this fee online, just click "Enroll Now"  This payment is due on Wednesday, October 25.

2. Then register with the YMCA at https://www.ymcanorth.org/locations/center_for_youth_voice/programs/youth_in_government/register, then Register. The EARLY BIRD fee to the YMCA is $479 through October 17. After October 17, program registration increases to $499. Registration closes October 31.

• You will need to put a non-refundable deposit down ($100) via credit card with the YMCA. The first payment deadline is November 7 and the second payment deadline is December 5.
• Please review the YMCA refund can cancellation policy:
  • Except in case of extenuating circumstances that are determined on a case-by-case basis, the refund policy for Youth in Government is as follows:
    
    • The registration deposit ($100) is never refundable.
    • After the first payment deadline (11/7/23), the registration deposit plus the first half of remaining fees ($100 + $189.50) made are no longer refundable.
    • After the second payment deadline (12/5/23), no fees are refundable.
    • Cancellations must be in writing and are submitted to the local Delegation Director, not the Center for Youth Voice.
    • If a delegate has a significant discipline issue or violation of the Code of Conduct, we reserve the right to dismiss the delegate, without refund, for the remainder of the session.
